Home Dharma Q&A Relationship

I Have No Reason To Forgive My Friend Who Betrayed Me

Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sunnyvale, California (Nov. 8, 2014)

March 24, 2021

Q: As we live, we encounter problems such as love and betrayal. For me, it’s very hard to forgive regardless of what happened. A lot of my friends tell me that I should forgive the person regardless of what happened. I tried to understand that we should forgive. But then am I wrong? Animals don’t forgive each other, Animals attack back if they were being betrayed. Am I wrong if I have no feeling, If I have no reason to forgive the person back?

Wisdom For You

When something bad happens…

“Will I become happy if I can regard the bad things that happen to me as not being bad?“

Just as there are no good days or bad days, there are no such things as good things or bad things.
Rather than trying hard not to think of something as bad, you need to realize that there is nothing that is inherently bad in this world.
